8 public universities of New Zealand
New Zealand has 8 public universities and 21 technological
and university institutes in its territory with the same type of diploma. The
university system is based on the Anglo-Saxon system, proof of excellence. For
a French student, it is accessible from the baccalaureate level (General or
vocational baccalaureate = Year 12).
Presentation of the New Zealand University System:
All recruitments at universities are on file, whatever the
level of study. However, unlike the Australian system with which it shares
almost all the mechanisms, the New Zealand system is much less selective
towards foreign students, certainly because of weaker demand.
Do not forget that the courses start in February and end in
November as being located in the southern hemisphere, the climate in New
Zealand is not the same as in France, which has repercussions. on the
university calendar.
Vocational school or Technical Schools:
Diploma in two years specialized in vocational training =
DUT / BTS
Unlike the American university system, these short
vocational courses open bridges to university training, and thus the third year
of Bachelor. However, admission is case-by-case and the level required is high.
Undergraduate studies:
Bachelor of Science or of Arts = License = Bac +3
Bachelor of Honor = Master 1 = Bac +4
Postgraduate:
Master of Science / Arts; MBA (business); LLMs (Law) =
Master 2 = Bac +5
A doctorate corresponds to the same level in both countries,
ie Bac +8. However, if you want to continue after the master, you must at least
receive a mention.
